Excellence doesn’t happen by accident, it is built every day by people who lead with heart, skill, and unwavering commitment.
Three Alpine School District employees were recently recognized with statewide awards from the Utah Association for Elementary Principals and the Utah Association for Secondary Principals for their exceptional leadership and service. Willowcreek Middle School Assistant Principal Melissa Swenson, Orem High School Administrative Secretary Elaine Billings, and Saratoga Shores Elementary Assistant Principal Jordan Warner each received these top awards, competing with nominees from districts across the state; these awards reflect the rarity and significance of their achievements.
Elaine Billings — UASSP Utah High School Secretary of the Year
“[She has a] limitless reserve of patience for even the silliest of requests” said Orem High Principal Tammy Stuart. Stuart Praised Billings’ remarkable ability to support the school community with both efficiency and kindness. “[She makes] every person feel like they are the most important person in the room.” Stuart noted that Billings’ work ethic and care elevate the entire school.
Billings’ longstanding service at Orem High has made her a central figure in the school’s culture. Her attentiveness, reliability, and genuine care for students and staff embody ASD’s culture of excellence and strengthen the daily experiences of all who enter the building.
Melissa Swenson — UASSP Utah Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year
Willowcreek Middle School Principal Shane Hill described Swenson as a leader whose decisions consistently center on what benefits students, teachers, and families. “Melissa has the heart of a teacher and is extremely conscientious of the importance of teaching expectations and following through appropriately,” he said. Hill shared that her dedication to equity and student success distinguishes her across the state.
Hill added “she will fight for what is right and advocates for all populations, especially some of our most disadvantaged groups.” Her leadership in professional learning, behavior expectations, and restorative practices demonstrates her commitment to elevating the educational experience for everyone she serves.
Jordan Warner — UAESP Utah State National Distinguished Assistant Principal
Warner received his award during a surprise assembly at Saratoga Shores Elementary, where UAESP honored him in front of students and staff. Principal Julie Fleming described Warner as a leader who “exemplifies outstanding leadership, professionalism, and compassion every day,” noting his strong relationships and trust-building across the school community.
Fleming emphasized that Warner’s proactive mindset, creative problem solving, and optimism set him apart. “He genuinely cares for everyone and has a strong commitment to excellence,” she said “Personally, I couldn't imagine doing my job without Jordan.”
As Utah’s state winner, Warner will represent the state at the National Association for Elementary Principals Convention this summer and attend national recognition events in Washington, D.C. this fall.
Across three different schools and roles, these honorees exemplify Alpine School District’s unwavering culture of excellence. Their contributions shape student experiences, strengthen school communities, and model the high standards that define ASD.
ASD proudly celebrates Melissa Swenson, Elaine Billings, and Jordan Warner for their extraordinary service and statewide achievement.
